How the business started
I started my career as a college advisor for low-income, first-generation high school students in my hometown of San Jose, California. I became frustrated with constantly changing policies that made it harder for students to apply to college, so I shifted my career to policy and research so I could change them myself!
Once I got into policy and research, I started to really miss working with students. After many years, I decided to start my business helping people write authentic college application essays they could feel proud of.
Now I help people navigate the college application process so they can make their education goals a reality.
Who I’m here for
The higher education system was originally built for wealthy white men and has struggled to keep up with the new realities of today’s students.
I’m here for the student who’s the first in their family to graduate high school. For the student who started community college but couldn’t finish because they had to work. For the single mom working her ass off to make her life better for her and her kid. For the folks who struggle to make ends meet but want to invest in themselves through education.
I’m here for all the students who may not fit the mold but have the drive to get their education.

When people graduate from college, they sometimes celebrate earning their degree by claiming that they are “One degree hotter”: they earned their degree and are now a little bit hotter because of it!
It’s a fun way to celebrate and the perfect way to express how I want the college application experience to feel: light-hearted, judgment free, and fun. I want you to feel inspired, motivated, and excited to start this journey. That’s why I help you get one degree hotter!
